10 things you should know about parenthood...

1.  It is by far the most stressful job ever...

2. Parenthood is not for the faint of heart...queasy stomachs need not apply

3. Sleep is now looked at as a privilage, not a right

4. Your child will develop a favorite toy or character...prepare to learn everything about this topic...and I mean everything...I am a pro at Thomas the Train

5. Silence is NOT the greatest sound...silence means trouble

6. Trying to watch YOUR tv show uninterrupted is virtually impossible, however, interupting your child while he/she watches HIS show is asking for a death sentence...or prepare for a massive tantrum

7. That being said, trying to accomplish anything, like writing this blog, un-interrupted is also unheard of

8. Parenthood entitles you to wear your pajamas or sweat pants out for errands...you no longer have to dress up to go downtown...if you do, you realize that something WILL be spilled on you

9. Your bed becomes a place for 2...even though you are a single mom

10. It is the most rewarding job in the entire world

Skating...sort of

First things first...a shout out to Tash & Kels...Congrats!!  I love you both so much, and am so happy for you!!

Tonight was Nolan's first skating lesson...really, it was him standing on skates, not letting go of my fingers...now that he is off the ice, you ask how skating went, and he loves it...but if you ask if he is going again, and you get a firm "NO!!"...little does he know, he has to go at least one more time, before I let him quit...I do have to say though, that he did learn to balance today...Yay Nolan!!  There is hope for him yet!!

I didn't get any pictures of him skating, as it is hard to take photos with a kid clung to your fingers, hahaha...maybe next time!

Off to the Mountains...

Being that Nolan is so facinated with the mountains as of late, that is where we spent our Saturday...off to Jasper we went...

We toured, we walked...

We spent the day with the ones we love...

Mommy

Once upon a time, when Nolan was younger, all I wanted was for him to say "mommy"...shorten it if need be...mom, ma, mama..anything...anything that resembled who I am...well, anything other than hag...that's too short, even for my liking, haha...

That day came, we celebrated, and I became known as mommy...

Now, and believe me when I say this....if I hear those two syllables one more time, "mom-myyyyyyy, mooooommmmmm, moooommmm-myyyyyy, mommyyyyyyy", I could very well lose my mind!!  Now, however, it is usually "mommmmmyyyy, hellllppp meeeeeeee"...Why Boog, what do you need??...."heeeellllppppp meeeeee wiiiissss my slip slops"...maybe they make flip flops in my house ridiculously hard to put on...wait a sec...nope, I just slipped mine off and on numerous times in the past seconds....it's become the "whine", no longer my special name, full of love and promises....ugh, I for one, loathe the "whine"...does it ever end??

Wait....i'm 28, and I still whine to my mom....I'm doomed.

As he grows...

Everyday I seem to notice another change in Nolan...be it big or small...he is infactuated with Halloween right now...every morning faithfully, the first question out of his mouth "is it Halloween??!!"...there is no "Good morning mommy, I love you with all of my heart"...oh no, it's all about Halloween....

I made the mistake of talking about mountains today...now we are doomed to spend Halloween in the mountains, I know it...hahaha...

He loves talking on the phone right now, but still doesn't understand that the person on the other end of the phone can't physically see what he is showing them, no matter how close he holds the object to the phone...and woowee, does he get mad when you don't see what he is showing you...its best for everyone, if you are ever talking to him, to just pretend you see what he is showing you...or rather, it's best for me...that's right, i'm being selfish, haha...

Have to make this a short, informative post as I must get my monkey into bed...and figure out a way to create a mountain landscape in my living room...the things to I do to keep my sanity!!

Rule breaker

Whoops!!!

So, in my house, we see a bug intruding in our party - we squish it...that's how we roll.

I picked Nolan up from 'Tay tare"...also known as DayCare to those of you that do not speak toddler...upon picking him up, his 'helper' asked Nolan to tell me what he did to the ladybug today..."oh god - please do not let my child have done something wrong to this poor bug - please do not say he has chosen to stick the bug in some body cavity...or rather another child's body cavity..please please please!!!!"...."Mommy, I smish the ladybug...crunch....flat...stuck on my ssshhhhandal, icky!!"..."THANK YOU GOD!!!!, I owe ya one big guy!!!!"...

Apparently I take my child to a bug friendly TayTare...Nolan was supposed to put the bug in the bucket and nicely escort it back outside...

ATTENTION BUGS: DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT VENTURE CLOSE TO MY HOUSE...YOU WILL GET 'SMISHED' - REGARDLESS OF WHAT THOSE TAYTARE PEOPLE SAY!!!

Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home... or consider yourself warned!!  You will be smished!!!

Once again...My dearest Nolan;

My darling son,

I want to begin by saying thank you for helping me dust...I know how much you love to squirt the can of  dust spray...I'm glad that you are finally taking an interest in cleaning...now only if you understood that you are in fact cleaning...

However, when armed with the dust spray, this does not entitle you spray anything and everything you come in contact with...namely the linoleum floor, and not tell me.  I found out alright - with my arms full of what was once folded laundry, walking down the hallway...

Again, I love you dearly, and really appreciate the help that you are offering...but please stop. Mommy's ass bone will never be the same following the wipe out I took on the Swiffer Dust & Shine...

love always,

your mommy - who is now in search of the Lightning McQueen ice pack

It's Friday!!

Friday's are cause for celebration in my house...Nolan and I survived another week...together...hahaha

I hope your Friday is great, and your weekend is even better!!

It's official...

I'm getting old...dammit.

Last night was the make up/benefit concert for BVJ 2009/Donna Moore (thanks mama and papa bear for the tickets - thanks for travelling the world, so Brittany and I could go!!  Love you, see you when you get home!)...and i'm exhausted and deaf, but had a blast! (Thanks Tash for watching my baby ninja while I enjoyed a night out!! Love you!)

The night had its somber moments...opening with a fiddle playing 'Amazing Grace' in honor of the lost life.  There were moments of silence to be had, as well a party atmosphere to be created...Both Rexall Place and Ticketmaster came through for the celebration of life last night, as they both donated their services...Rexall donated the building for free, and Tickemaster waived all of the usual fees that you would incur with getting tickets through them...and we all know how lovely those service charges are!

The estimate thus far is that over $20,000 was raised for the Donna Moore Trust Fund last night to benefit her two boys.

Tim McGraw was fantastic as usual...playing hit after hit, letting the fans scream out the lyrics.  I have to say, in all of the shows that I have attended, Tim McGraw was the most 'fan friendly'...Performing on a round stage, he made sure he touched hands with every single person that stood at the fence to shake his hand...no matter if he had to wait for you to arrive as you were a slow walker or not...he waited, touched hands (hello Swine Flu epidemic people!!  hahaha...i'd be bathing in hand sanitizer if I were him, haha), and continued on performing...

All in all...a great night!

Dearest Son;

My dearest Nolan...

I am writing this to you as I feel as though it is a benefit to your health...and perhaps well being....If I hear the words "reach me" one more time, mommy is going to go postal...You are a 40lbs + child, I cannot carry you everywhere!! If you continue with this, I will be tempted to leave you with the neighbors...they seem like friendly enough people...you are cute, and can be good, when you wish, so I am certain they will make you a nice home...

Also, when I am on the phone, it does not mean that you should scream louder, just so the person on the other end of the phone assumes that I am slowly and painfully torturing you...it doesn't work that way...I will remember this, and when you are on the phone with your girlfriend, I will stand at your feet and scream "REACH ME"...Perhaps then you will realize the annoyance...Please keep in mind that I love you dearly, I am solely writing this for your benefit...

When I say "Please do not jump on the couch", I am beginning to wonder that if in toddler language, that truly means "please jump as high as possible...that's it, reach for the ceiling!!, atta boy!!..." as that seems to be the result of my warning...I do not tell you this to cramp your style, but rather as I do not want to take a screaming toddler into the hospital for a broken ankle...remember how much you hate the hospital??...it will be worse if you continue your behavior...trust me!

Dearest son, when mommy's patience level is at the point where it is as of late, perhaps you should take it upon yourself to play nicely...or just not scream in my face...I'm just sayin...

It is my strong suggestion that you take this letter to heart...it will benefit us both...

Love always,
Mommy

Fashion Forward Dinosaur

Let me start by saying that as many frustrating times, or times that I get angry or lose my patience with Nolan, there are far more times that we laugh until our tummy's hurt...like the time he had gas (it must be a mom thing to find this funny, as 5 years ago, I would have found it disgusting, haha), and every step he took, he tooted, and would double over in laughter...

Anyways, whenever there is silence in my house, I worry...noise means movement, movement = breathing....sounds bizarre, I know, but if you aren't a parent already, just wait..you too will follow the breathing = noise theory.  Just as I finished doing the dishes, Nolan was supposed to be getting ready for bed, I heard...clomp...clomp...clomp...raaaaaa..silence...clomp...clomp...clomp...raaaaaaaa...silence...Now I really wonder what the heck is going on.  I peeked my head down the hallway - Nolan has all of his stuffed animals lined up against the wall, acting as a dinosaur...wearing my high heels. "Mommy, I dinosaur!! RAAAAAAAA"...

A perfect example of how he makes me tummy hurt by laughing...

I must get some work done...my dinosaur has good, but yet expensive taste in shoes!

Here we are...

Hi!

So, here we are...my first post...I'm new to this whole 'blogging' world, so you will have to have patience with me as I learn!

Where to begin...well, how about the beginning...

I am a single mom to a rambunctious, active, busy three year old boy...he keeps me on the move, usually by cleaning up after his messes...sigh...oh well! Is it weird or wrong to say that I truly didn't think I would be able to love the little monster more and more everyday??!..because I do...he makes me thankful for the little things in life.

Hmm, what else...like I said, I am new to this whole thing, so be patient!

Hahaha, I have thought so much about writing a blog, and had all of these great ideas, and now...nothing...figures!

Well, lemme ponder this, and I will be back...I hope you are too!
